Breamin Maroon
Headed down to Maroon this morning to chase some bass, after drive through Boonah and the outside temp in the car being 0 degrees and frost everywhere it looked like it was going to be a cold and tough morning. Put the boat in and head off to the first spot. The water temp was ranging from 12 – 13.5 degrees, we began casting sliders and jackals after a couple of casts (and the hands already being numb). With all the bass dams fishing so tough at the moment, I decide (after having at chat at the tackle store yesterday) that I was going to fish the dam as if I was fishing for bream (gear, 4lb leader, bream plastics etc except little heavier jig head than what I would norm use for bream ) I decided to start with a 2” gulp shrimp in the new pepper prawn (hoping this would get them to bite.
First cast, line flicks, strike, on, good fish after a good fight a 37cm bass. Next cast big hit and busted off. 30 mins went by with lots of hits but no hook ups, so I decided to put a stringer on the back of the plastic. Next cast undersize little bass on the stringer. 15 mins later a nice yella was in the boat (The bream lures were carving up). Then the bite shut down so decided to try and find fish in other areas of the dam, an hour went by with only a few small bites, but no fish.
After trying to find some school fish, with not a lot of luck, I decided to return to where the day started. The shrimp was loaded with s – factor and two casts and an exceptional fight later a 35cm bass was in the net. And another soon to follow, It was time to head home. So with a nice couple of fish, in only three and a half or so hours fishing, it was quite a good day (especially when a mate only got one on the “conventional” bass lures). Gun lure was the 2” gulp shrimp with a loomis drs 820 and 1000 aspire with 4lb braid and 4 lb leader.

Yer, from the ramp go right to that bay and fish inside the bay and the points of it. There are thick weed beeds hard up against the bank, so cast bout 2 m before the bank and just work the lure from there

Great pics, That is my favourite dam to fish for Bass. Even if their not on the bite it's still nice to be there.
