    something in the air

Had a deep wound in the bow of my boat from last fishing trip
took my boat to my regular builder for repairs.
next day picked up boat that had some dust on it and i said id wash it off
next morning early boat had some dew on it so i tried giving dust off with a hose but could not remove it so i tried acatone ,still no good then tried cut and polish
still no good ,so i rang my builder he had no ideas either only to find out his 2 cars that were parked outside had same dust on it, now they need resprays.
The only thing i found out to remove the stains was acid now boat looks like new
has this happened to anyone else

Was it paint dust Pete? What do you think it was and where on the planet did this happen?

    Cheers

Just a thought, What kind of acid did you use that worked? that will indicate what the dust was.

    G'day

Pete, you were up at arnolds I suppose, any chance it could be a combination of things like jet fuel and dust? Maybe it's set and gelled overnight? Just throwing a few things out there

    Re: something in the air

I lived in Gladstone for nearly 40 years and never ever once had anything on the car or the boat that didn't blow off ie: a bit of coal dust or alumina powder.

Some people have little if any idea.

It's a strange one Pete that's for sure, but would be very interesting to know what the substance actually was.

    Re: something in the air

    Hey,

If you've given it an acid bath, it will need a full polish and wax again.

The acid rips off all the protective layers that polish and wax puts on.

    Regards

    Darren
