What to target in this cold snap in Townsville

Yearning to go fishing............landbased that is.

What happens to the fish this time of year when we get a cold snap. Do they go off the bight or does this excite some and not others??

Planning another trip to Crystal Creek in hope of maintaining my 100% keeper record. Would hate to try and the cold has swithed the bites off and in turn ruined my 100% keeper record.

Friday morning with a 2 metre difference and high just after 8:30am should suffice

    Bream and flathead apparently Kev.

Lightly weighted yabbies dropped in the shallows and allowed to run/roll into gutters/holes will get 'em going. If you're going to Xtal, see if you can get up to Insulator along the track that winds up behind the pondokkies. It has great yabbie banks and nice 1-2m holes in amongst the sand banks.

    Good for grunter too.

But the same would apply for the mouth of Xtal as well - I just haven't fished it

I've had a bit of success over the years on cold mornings at the Rockpool with ganged pillies on the doggies. Also at the Marina mouth.

    Cheers Mozza,

Waiting for the warmer weather and higher morning tides and will then head out with a mate in his 4-wheel drive to insulator and hopefully come up trumps.

    Keep you posted

go to the mouth of crystal & chase some grunter, get along the side of the mouth & every 20 mins move down the beach a little bit, use mullet, herring, gar fillet, prawns or half a pillie.

can get some very good good grunter, salmon and queenies from the beach up that way if you can locate yourself a good beach gutter.... or if they aren't biting, can at least guarantee a shark or 4. Always plenty of bait in insulator creek if you got a net

    Cheers

A mate of mine caught 2 Spaniards off the back of the rock pool the other weekend. Floated pilly & gar.

Insulator & Crystal should be good for Grunter though. Am thinking of heading up to Insulator in a few weekends & camping there overnight. Probably head up Saturday morning, come home Sunday lunchtime.
