how many of you follow recipes exactly, and how many make it up as you go along?
obviously when baking cookies or what not you need precise ratios and times and temps, but when making a stew or marinade or spaggetti sauce, i'll often times throw in whatever strikes my fancy.
sometimes the dog wont even eat it, but sometimes, boy! yummo!
trouble is i can't seem to remember exactly how i did it the next time i make it, or am lacking one ingrediant or another.
I'm the same, I rarely follow a recipe to the letter... often I just try to copy what I have eaten in a restaurant, or just what I think will taste good. I keep telling myself that I should write the quantities down as I go, but I keep forgetting!
depends with me...if its something ive never eaten before...sure ill stick to the recipe...then next time ill tweek it to my liking...

I think you need to improvise as you go, even when you follow a recipe, I find you need to tweak things to get it right, a little more fluid, a little more dry ingredients etc to get the right consistancy. Its all part of the fun. Anyway, if someone complains in my house, guess who gets the job of cooking next time. LoL
