    Haines Hunter weight at transom

G"day guys, looking at upgrading my motor for my earlier 90"s model 580 haines hunter, presently has a 175hp 2 stoke evinrude early 90"s which i would asume around the 170-180kg in weight, hull in early 90's was rated to 225hp 2 stroke. Quetion is could i bolt a heavy 175 hp 4 sroke to the transom weighing in around 230-240kg or look at new opti/etec 175 hp at around your 195kg mark. Anyone with previous experience or thoughts would be appreciated. thanks Brent

I had a '93 150hp Johno 2 stroke on my Outsider before I repowered. It is the same motor as your 175hp rude I think. Weighed 167kgs dry.

One of my neighbours has a 580 Haines with a 150hp Yammy 4 stroke on it. The Yammy 150hp weighs 220kgs in XL leg, so 230/@240kgs is probably feasable weigh wise.

Yamaha don't make a 175hp 4 stroke, the next size up is 200hp and weighs 269kgs so you can count that one out I reckon.

The Suzy 175hp weighs only 211kgs so a contender (2.867 litres displacement).

The Honda 175hp is 267kgs so too heavy, but a ripper motor at nearly 3.5 litres displacement!

The Verado 175 weighs 239kgs so borderline, but there is a light weight version of the 200hp model that weighs the same and would probably be the better buy (1.732 litres displacement).

The E-tec 175hp (2.589 litre displacement) weighs 190kgs in XL, the 200 is the same motor/displacement and same weight. There is a 200HO that weighs 238kgs and is said to be close to the 225hp in output (3.279 litre displacement).

The Mercury 175hp (2.507 litres) Opti weighs 195kgs, the 200hp (3.032 litres) is 225kgs. There is also a light weight version that is basically the same motor as the 175hp and also weighs 195kgs.

The Yamaha HPDI 175hp (2.596 litres) weighs 220kgs, the 200hp HPDI is the same motor and weight.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers

    Dave
