    Port Clinton R.I.P

    Hi,
I cannot believe that the government would open such a pristine area to become
ruined for the sake of another coal port. Funny how GBRMPA LEFT IT ALONE so the government could use it for a coal terminal! on behalf of all comercial fisherman this is a sad day indeed.

Don't worry Rob, as from 2010 we will all be paying a carbon tax that will save the planet, including the GBR......../sarcasim off!

Seriously Rob "they" don't care. Its all about $$ and more $$$. You could make the government look silly though if in a public protest/way you kept on asking about how Coal exports will save the planet, esp while they say CO2 from coal/fossil fuel is going to destroy the Reef, hence the "reason" why they need to tax us via the ETA.

    Mixed messages indeed.

How can they possibly open a coal port there? Surely it is too environmentally sensitive for that? What about the reef?

In this part of the cost the 'reef' proper is 100Nm from the coast. Port Clinton is a deepwater port that has been looked at for many, many years to be developed as a proper port. It is a beautiful part of the world though and will be a shame to have to dodge even more large ships in the area.
