Fuel flow Monitors,damage motors?
Any truth that fuel flow monitors cause motor problems, and subsequent damage?
Anyone had any issues.

Re: Fuel flow Monitors,damage motors?
I have never heard this and I have one on my boat and never had an issue that I could attribute to this. In my mind the ECU on the engine controls the rate of fuel flow that the engine needs and if the measuring device was somehow reducing the amount on supply the ECU would keep adjusting until it gets what it needs.
None of this is scientific, but just my thoughts.

Sounds like a furfie to me. I had a navman one and I am pretty sure they do not restrict the flow, just a small turbine in the flow.

I am not surem how this all got started, but as I remember it,the unit was a filter as well..
Really appreciate your knowledge of the matter.
Thanks

Re: Fuel flow Monitors,damage motors?
I heard of a USA case where ethanol fuels had broken down a seal in the fuel flow sender and it caused airation of the fuel in the fuel line. It was a contributiary cause of a motor death so it said. Not quite sure how but must have helped it run lean. Bloody problem of ethanol fuels is that it can affect the smallest of components - especially older components you don't even think of.

They are an obstruction to flow simply be being there so in theory will exacerbate any lack of flow problem but here would need to be a problem first.
My meter gave the inches of water vacuum it caused or some other measurement in the specs, was not a great deal.

I have one connected thru my Navman and apart from being a little out, at best a few liters, absolutely brilliant..better than a gauge that flops around and says your on empty when you have over 40lts in the tank..would recommend them to all boaties, it really does give you piece of mind
