Broken GPS
my Father in law has a handheld Garmin GPS and the screen has died does anyone know if you can download the data from it someway?

what model gps is it.
you should be able to aquire pc - gps cables from a good retailer for the model so you can save your marks..

its a Garmin GP45, and i found out a mate had a GPS72 he said it crashed,used to be a commercial fisherman off the Swains and has lost all his marks. i ws wondering if there are people out there that can extract data from the hard drive( if they have one).

maybe talk directly to the manufacturer, send it in to them, that would be your best bet.
if you do that i'd recommend that you include a short note that you need the co-ordinates to be saved, and that you require the unit to be fixed, or state that your willing to upgrade and if they could put the old co-ordinates on the new unit.

thanks for that, i have since found out that you can get a cable to connect to the computer so i haveordered one may be able to help out both, it looks like it fits both models.
