    Gulp vs Squidgees

Ok. i know there has been a massive thread on this subject before, but i thought it was time to refresh the debate.

Up until yesterday i mostly had only ever used Gulps. but after using squidgees my catch rate is probably better.... gulp better for number of hits, but not so much for actual catch rate.

so once again i ask. who perfers Gulps or squidgees, or uses both, or another brand on the market.

    Hi,
I have always used gulps for barra in creeks etc , particularly in the swimming mullet either 2' or 4' pumkinseed. Two months ago cleaned up on some big salt water barra using 2' on full moon. (well big to ten 80-90 cm) but when chasing trout and sweet lip I have always had more luck with squidge pro range in the gold fish. Every time I have dropped over a reef edge they always get smashed.

For macks I have had more luck with snap backs.
But it never ends my boat is full of plastics! just in case I need one or the other

    Why don't people use squidgees............

No luck with them, don't like their colour range..

1 positive thing about them is they don't dry up like the gulps do.

Squidgies are great plastics and, if we are comparing the 2, i have probably had better success on them than gulps .

'Flick baits' and paddle tailed 'Fish' are my prefered profiles.

I have only ever caught fish on Squidgies, never caught a thing on Gulp! and it is very frustrating.

Is there a knack to catching fish on squidgies as I have tried many times but with absolutely no success.

when targetting flathead. i just use teh simple twitch the rodtip 2 - 3 times, let the lure drop back to the bottom, wind in the excess slack, then repeat. if the fish are there they won't hesitate to take the plastic.

i had a flathead yesterday follow my squidgee so close it was 5m away from me where i could see it. i watched this fish follow the squidgee up when i flicked the rod tip, then chased it back down to the bottom, because i could see it i paused for a few seconds, then lifted the rod to set the hook. apon closer inspection this flathead absolutely inhaled the squidgee and the hook was through it's upper lip.

colour was brown with black spots in naer perfect water... guess it looked like a dark whiting to a fish.

Ahhh this poll ... again As far as I'm concerned , there needs to be an "all the above" .. I wont vote on this one as I've found its horses for courses & what is working on the day ! If you limit yourself to one or even two brands ...... you could be really missing out I don't believe any one brand is better than the other as far as I'm concerned ......
If I look at my bream SP box ..... You'll see Powerbait , Gulps , Squidgy , Storm , Atomic & Ecogear ........... All have worked for me at one stage or another!

    Keep your mind open
    Cheers

    Re: Gulp vs Squidgees

I use GULP swimming mullets and sandworms and some of their shrimp but I also use Squidgy's flick baits and their other plastics. Personally, my favourite are the GULP but the Squidgys and other brands are also great (atomics, storm and tsunami).

    Cheers Tom

both work to there own on different days, eg in very clear water when im breamin id rather go for a natural look of a squidgie flickbait in flash prawn or green gremlin(old colour thats works a treat) but if im fishing some wash, deep water or slightly discoloured id run siomething more like a gulp espesully if the fishing is tough
