    what sized reel to get....

    hey guys,

im looking for a new setup,
i will use it for tailor, snapper, kings, jew, tuna etc
mainly larger plastics will be the go but would like to be able to throw on HB or jig as well. As i dont do much offshore fishing at the moment im not real sure what size is best

at the moment i only have 2500 sized reels
so was thinking a 3500 (maybe a caldia kix).
what do you think....? or should i go a 3000 or go bigger and get a 4000

i was thinking of matching up with a daiwa saltwater rod..../

    any tips,

    cheers
    Cheers,

    Ben

depending on what size kings and tuna you are chasing
the sol 4000 wilol do the job just fine or even the tierra 4000
is a good reel if u wanna save a few$$
put 15-30lb braid on it and a decent rod and you will have a very nice combo

The Sol 4000 is probably a good choice, but depending on your budget check out the Penn Slammer range maybe in 360 - 460.

mate the new sol 4000 has been released. they are a nice reel. plenty of balls too. my sol 2500 has been hammered and she stil runs as smooth as the day i bought it. priced around $320. that would go nice with the daiwa saltwater rod. my branzino 3000 is on a TD satwater med/heavy great outfit

    thanks for the advice guys,

hey smoked, how do you find the 3000 size wise,
is it big enough to take outside and fish for kings etc,
i have a 2500 sol and love it but thought its probably a bit small for what i want to do, what do u think is 3000 or 4000 a better option...?

    cheers,

A 3000 sol will handle quite a bit of punishment and is perfect for tailor and snapper but when you start talking jew, big kings and tuna offshore than i'd probably lean towards the 4000.

I've got a 3000 and love it. Its light and smooth enough to be able to use it as a medium estuary reel but still has the balls to put down some serious drag pressure when required and will handle kings/tuna/jew for sure, but it all depends on how much time you will spend targeting the bigger / faster species compared to snapper / tailor.

But again, as you have the 2500 sol it might be better to go with the 4000.

    Whats your 2500 loaded with?

Stella 10000 mate only if you have alot of money to spend. Otherwise the other reels people have suggested are brilliant I've heard.
