    It's a very debatable topic.

If you go to a few specalised rod building sites you'll see guides to suit every style of fishing... example.... high set guides, single foot guides for the lighter rods, roller guides for that special game rod, stainless 316 for heavy salt water. I've only just scratched the surface as the list is really long.

Often it's size that counts... where have we heard that before!!!

You might be better off asking the question with regard to the type of rod and it's purpose.

I would get shot down in flames if I suggested xyz brand is a good all rounder. Having said that fuji are available in just about every tackle store.

There is also a question of budget, you can spend an awful lot of money on guides if the disposable income is available.

By far any away the most popular guide for LBG rods are the FUJI 'LR' guides, as they are very strong and even more so than other guides the frame provides a lot of protection for the ring, so if your rod falls on the rocks there is less chance of the ring popping out. batson also do a similar design, the 'ST' I think.
