    Hmm Sol

Well, it's my birthday in 4 weeks and I am looking to buy a new combo for fishing plastics for bream. The reel I've been looking at is the Daiwa SOL 2500 Spinning Reel with a Finesse Bream Spin 701 7'2" 1 pce 2-4kg rod. Does this sound like a good combo for chasing bream with plastics? Also, if anyone has had experience with the rod or reel can you please tell me how they go.

    Cheers Tom

    G'day

I have that same combo with the 2000 size sol.

This is my snapper combo, and with the 2500 sol for bream, it's too big.

    Downsize to a 1500 or 2000

Mate, I have a 2 piece 7ft 2" ish Shimano Raider fitten with a Daiwa Exceler reel (I think 2500)
I use 4lb fireline crystal and usually a 3lb nitlon flourocarbon leader.
Since buying this setup in may I have caught more bream on soft plastics than I've caught all up previously!
If you're keen on breaming with SP's you can't go past the Raider rods.
Let us know what you get and how it goes!

my girl friend has that combo. and from experince it is great. but as the other bloke said if your using it just for bream downsize the reel. but my girl friend catches bream flathead jacks and cod so the 2500 is a good size. plus it off shore to the reefs and have fun with it out there. so yeah great combo and the sols are fantastic reels.

Well a 2000 sol seems good but, are the daiwa excellors just as good? OH and with a 2000 size reel I want to be running a 1-3kg rod so are they any affordable rods out there 7foot and 1-3kg line rating?

Agreed, I think the only difference was 1 bearing from memory. but a massive saving to be had. Matched up with a 7" 1-3kg sicstick pro or sorts and you have a very nice combo.
Keep smiling, It makes people wonder what you're up to.

They are both have the same bearing count (listed as 6+1 bearing) but in the SOL 3 of them are CRBB where as in the Advantage 2 are CRBB. The price difference is too big to be ignored, I have a SOL but if i was to do it again i would definitely buy the advantage because of the huge saving.

    Re: Hmm Sol

I've got a 2500 Sol and can't fault it. It's spooled with 20lb braid and I have caught heaps of bream on it, on a 7ft graphite rod rated 2- 6 kg. From my perspective, it is really versatile. By simply changing the leader I am able to chase much larger fish. This is using bait - I haven't done any good on plastics, but haven't tried them much. The braid is thin and soft enough to cast well. Now if I can only figure out how to stop my favourite graphite rods from breaking when I drop a hatch on them (both at the same time) .
