BMW X5 Diesel Tow Vehicle

I am considering purchasing the above and am wondering if anyone has any experience with them as a tow vehicle? My trailered package weighs 2.4 tonnes.

A mate tows an 18' sharkcat with his - should be about the same weight. He likes it.

I've just gone through the process, asked myself the same question.

I should qualify this by saying I love Bimmers, and while I have never owned one, I will one day.

I ended up buying a 200 series VX Cruiser, with a few little extras (not arriving until November ). Not as sprightly a performer, and significantly larger, but as a tow vehicle it is unsurpassed up to 3 tonnes or so.

The decision is all about do you choose it because you really want a BMW, or do you want the most suitable car for the $?

Get a Cruiser, and if you can afford that, you'll be on track to have the Cruiser AND a BMW in another couple of years. I'll buy a 5 series near new in 2010.

Let the missus drive the Cruiser when you're not towing!
