Thread: Breamin Hypothetical

    Re: Breamin Hypothetical

drift onto, if the tide is running out there should be enough run in it to take you where you need to go so you dont spook them. if they seem in a spooky mood i wouldnt use HB or surface lures first. the disturbance they are made to create could set them off so i think it would be better to investigate first how flighty they are. small plastics like the squidgie craw or stealth prawns, anyting prawnish, small and on the clear side of colours as the water looks clear. id work it slowly out from the edges or shadows from overhanging trees as bream usaully school hordes of small prawns into these areas. if your getting lots of follows one will get too curious sooner or later and take it. if their not interested try something else after a few casts, i think its best to work your way thru your best options with minimal disturbance first (it makes sense)
when using hardbodies id go for clear colours in clear shallow water, i think it would spook them less rather than having something ressembling an elton john earpiece flashing around, coz really its better to be seen in a sublte way as bream prey are trying not to be seen.
    my thoughts anyway

im with nut, go the camion shallow.it looks like perfect water for them there, or a shirasu minnow. or try a 3inch power minnow on a hws jig with a stinger in the tail and do shaky retreive just above the weed and dont stop shaking. just keep it twitching (like you are useing a hb) right over the weed and the bream run it down and grab it on the tail. iv been using the green mustad black fish hooks as stingers and they work well, just straiten the hook first so it dose not make the placy spin. surface would go good there in the warmer months but i bet the surface action will be a bit lame at the moment (not saying you wont get any ) but it is cold. a tiamco sinking stick minnow could work quite affectivley at that spot but i think you will have more luck with a good shallow running diver. hehe baby rmg water.

    Hi Jeremy

The tide doesn't drain a large volume of water that far up the river ....... So it moves at maybe 1-2 knots mid tide
I should mention .... that there is usually a deeper carved channel which can vary from 3-8 feet (3 feet on the bottom of the tide)
I was heading up against the outgoing tide ( on the leccy) ...... & spooking fish 20 m ahead
I have no doubt they were feeding though ...... I had a slow follow on the Stiffy

What about trying a prawn like fly with pea sinker just enough to cast.

This used on a very light spinner can work well.

Just trying to think outside the square.

Aside from spooky in bright ,clear & shallow conditions - I actually thought temps had a lot to do with their lame behavior @ 13.5 deg .... not really party temps A bit further up .... some big suckers could be seen rolling on their sides over sunken boulders!
I'll certainly arm myself to fish ultra finesse ...... when I do have a crack

Another approach might be to get a good mate and a big gill net.

DID I JUST SAY THAT OR THINK IT.

    Just joking.

    Re: Breamin Hypothetical

You could also try the ecogear px45's in the pink grub colour and just use continual small downward flicks to keep the lure darting side to side and when the fish try to eat the lure just keep it moving!!!!
