What sort of fishing do you like, and how many people will generally be in the boat?
    New or secondhand?
Personally i would go for at least a V-nose punt, but i dont fish that area.

My first boat was a brand new 3.6m bluefin with 18hp tohatsu 2stroke and new trailer for 4.8 i think

I'd prob go 2nd hand trailer/boat and buy a new 25hp 2 st. so you can get a larger boat for your money.

Look around the 14ft range w/25 hp, stick to alloy

That is $850 with rego on trailer and boat, new 18-25hp set you back 1.8k to 2.2k

Depends what your looking for, some bargins can be found, but be wary about buying 2nd boats with bung trailers, and vice versa.

Check condition of hull and any stress factors the boat may of had.

    Re: first boat purchase

we just bought our first little boat (14ft runabout) from boatsales.com.au however have since found heaps on ebay around that price range as I have decided I'd like just alittle more room (17ft ??) because of the kids being onboard with us.

I just love my little boat but certainly wouldn't go out with more than 3 adults onboard (maybe I"m just a woosy too)
