    Re: Fish ID

In the new standardized system it's actually 'rosy snapper', sounds weird huh!

    Re: Fish ID

while its a dodgey photo i am going to go against the grain and say it is not a rosy.

Looks to me like a yellow lip butter fly bream. We catch hundreds of them on the bait jigs here at mooloolaba. thats about as big as they get. Great bait.

More photos will tell the story.

    Re: Fish ID

gummybusta you are wrong on so many counts
1 butterfly bream has one long dorsal fin with a long trailing edge
2 it also has a bright yellow top lip
3 it also has two broad pale yellow stripes one along the lat line and the other below
4 it has a yellow edge to the tail and a long yellow trailing filament from the top of the tail .

like the picture above rosyjobs have a return end dorsal and a large eye look at the anal fin also,,,now you get your facts right before knocking others who may know more than a so called"marine biologist"

Also coming from inside Hervey Bay leads me to think it is a Pinky as they are colloquially known as well.

I am with smithy 100% not sure if pinky is there real name but we catch sh!t loads of them up wathumba way on plastics. If you use small baits up there 9 out of 10 times you will get one of these pinkies.Don't seem to grow very big, biggest i have caught would be about 35cm.
