G'day all just thought I'd throw in a report on a small camping trip it did last weekend..
Decided to do some freash water stuff last weekend. I wanted to take the dog so that limits your options in NQ. Decided to throw the Red Claw pots and head off to burdekin dam. I was amazed at the efforts that have been made there. Water, powered sites, grass, roos, toilets, showers, free electric BBQs.... It was that good I was a little dissapointed as I was set up to be ruffing it.
The dam... All that was caught by anyone whilst I was there were sleepy cod and a couple of sooty grunter. I only managed sleepy cod.... they are everywhere and rediculously easy to catch... I think I managed to get 4 or 5 of one recycled prawn.
As for red claw, they are there as I found evidence in one of my sleepy cod, however not one person, myself included found anything but turtles in our traps..
Im sure the fishing is better in the warmer months, the place is lovely and very k9 friendly.
Many caravaners, and family groups..
Any more information on fishing Burdekin Falls Dam ?????
Mate they were opera house traps from 7 to 7 in townsville. The other bloke that was pulling his in had a turtle in one of his traps too. Dont stress the little fellas were alright and went straight back into the water. They were just slightly bigger than an ATM card.
You're from central queensland so Im guessing you know the spot. If you drive down towards the boat ramp, but chuck a left before you get there there is a wall and a bit of swampy still water on the other side, thats where they were, and there were turtles in regulation pots.
BigBend is a great spot for Redclaw...I'll be headfing out to the Valley of Lagoons soon so I'll let ya know if it's any good for the shelled buggers up there
