Manged to sneak out late sunday arve to get the last of the run In tide in search of some of the crocs that spat the hooks two weeks prior and maybe another Luderick or two, which believe it or not i got on a dirtly ol prawn.
Was very quiet with only one lizard and a flounder caught ( which i released as we were meant be having corn beef, that the cook told me she’d put on ) then as the sun went down and we were just about sitting on high tide i noticed a few disturbaces in the water and the thought ‘ schools off tailor !!! ‘ entered my head so i quicky ditched my soft plastic setup, got a heavier setup, whacked on a 'gillies' slug and started belting it out with fast retrieves. Think it was the 3rd or 4th cast and the rod just went real heavy and and she bent over i continued bringing her in then after a few jumps i had one inin,,, nearly jumping outta the boat, quick slash of the throat an into me esky. I knew it was going to be on so quickly got back out there and within half an hour i had six in the esky, it was dark now and had to be back for the corn beef, so left the bastards biting and come home to no silverside cooking 1hr of filleting later and we were chewing on freshly baked tailor.
They ranged from 35-55cm ( a new PB for me on my second trip targetting tailor) and were caught on 12lb mono. They didnt really get to put up much of a fight on my snapper combo, apart from the bigger 2 so may have to try using my plastics combo's with 8lb, tho not sure if it will do the combo's any good chucking out heavy slugs.
peace
