    Re: Garfish

I'm another one for the old bread crumbs for burley and little prawn pieces under a pencil float. We catch snub nose gar in North Pine Dam...well my little boy catches them while I chase bass. Big blue back ones in there, thousands of them.
I stand waist deep in the water out there and the gar come right up to you when you bring your bass lures back in. They'll even have a go at big lures but the trebles are too big to hook them.
I've seen quite a few blokes fishing for them to use as jack bait in the river afterwards.

I used to catch bucket loads of them in a drag net off a beach.

    Re: Garfish

In North Pine Dam try fly fishing for them with almost any small dry fly for trout. I waded around last winter for about an hour and brought home about 20 good sized gars for dinner.
