Surf rod in a creek pays dividends

Hit Crystal Creek this morning at 5:30 am...............took 3 rods with one being a surf rod. I have been there 3 times now and have sometimes watched action happening on the opposite bank in frustration because I cant get my baits there.

This morning I could get my baits in deep and almost to the other side of the creek. Used whole dead green back herring .This resulted in me bringing home 4 Grunter between 40 and 45cm each.

Happy with that but that bastard MANGROVE JACK still evades me. One day I will get a legal Jack.

Happy days and finally fresh fish for Dinner

The creek is probably 50m wide. I was using a big 8000 surf reel with 25lb line on.

Nice feed and wish I could do it agin today were it not for work.

    good one kev!

i have heard that the grunter are starting their run along the coast!
might have to get out for a few night fishes & get some BIG ones, got to check these new marks out i reckon that they will be top grunter marks.
i"ll agree with brian "top tucker" they are my favourite eating fish, fish around 4-6kg put up a very hard fight.

A bigger tide might bring along bigger grunter..............just not all that keen using very heavy sinkers because a 2mt tide difference comes with a big run. Anyway no run no fun. Over 3 mt high also means that finding a place to fish from is also difficult. I don't want to stand in the water and fish.....................too many leather handbags
