    Minibucks round 2 - Sat/Sun

The weekend just past saw Craig (Splashy) and myself fishing the 2 day Minibucks Teams event held out of Hope Harbour Marina on the Coomera River on the Gold Coast. 47 Teams were contesting the event and after our successful prefish last weekend our hopes were high for a good finish.

With a game plan sorted, we were off to the Pin, deciding first to hit a flat that I hadn't fished for years but one that Splashy fished a couple of weeks ago with some success. Well that plan paid off with a 5 fish bag in the boat in 20 minutes . We had no size in the bag but its certainly a great pressure reliever to have it. For the next couple of hours we boated fish after fish, with a few upgrades thrown in. Things were looking good.

Lures doing the damage were everything we threw at them, from 2" Gulp shrimps & 3" Minnow Grubs to 80 & 100mm Squidgy Wrigglers in all colours.

With about three hours left in the day 1 session we decided to leave the fish biting and move up to the rest of the spots that we fished last week and guess what - not one bream was boated for the rest of the day .

One of the best bream sessions for both of us saw us weigh an average Gold Coast bag of 1.86kg and saw us finish the day in 17th place.

Day 2 saw us heading to a favourite canal system about 10 minutes from the start in the hope of bagging some decent fish early. Alas we only got a couple of touches and I don't think we even saw a bream. Straight back to the productive flat from the day before was the call and sure enough, 25 minutes after getting there we had a 5 fish bag, a tad smaller than the day before.

We decided to stay on the flat and throw bigger plastics in an effort to entice some bigger bream to the boat, for the next 4 hours we landed fish after fish all around the same size, with the occasional 20 - 30 gram upgrade. We couldn't get any bigger fish, but we were having a ball trying.

The end of day 2 saw us weigh 1.68kg and saw us slip back 1 spot to 18th.

On day 1 we have decided to mark every bream we caught irrespective of size onto the GPS, Splashy did a count last night and the grand total of bream caught for the 2 days was 86 and we missed a few. That for numbers caught, was the best couple of days of bream fishing that the two of us have enjoyed.

All up we had a ball, had a lot of laughs and caught some fish, can't think of a much better way to spend a couple of days on the water.

Congrats to fellow Ausfisher Mick Tourley (Dodgyback) on taking out the round, I think they ended up with around 5.5kg for the 2 days.

    Cheers

    John
