New to Newcastle...

hey i'm pretty new around here. i've just moved to newcastle recently and haven't been for a single outing since i've been here. nevertheless the urge has arisen (albeit slightly late) to dong some fish.

being totally new to the area i have no idea at all about where would be some decent places for me to throw a few lures, soft and hard, from the land....yes it pains me to be a land lubber, but so be it.

i've been sussing google earth and noted a little spot down just over the swansea bridge where there is a little creek opening into the main section with a breakwall. would this be a good place to start.

i generally target bream and flatty... is anyone willing to share with me a point in the right direction??? please...i'm totally clueless

Lizard Lord, I dont think theres a whole lot of guys from newy on here but I'll have a go. The place you refer to is the entrance to Black neds bay and there are fish in there as well as a plague of blue ring occies, fish from the rock wall over to the sand bank on the channel side for flatties. On the other side of the channel, head north up the highway and after the old airport hang a left onto naru St and follow it all the way to the end (the last k or so is dirt) there are some good shallows as well as a smaller channel that runs in to swan bay, all good lizard grounds, the water straight off the small rockwall there is around 28ft deep, this entire area is a lizard nursery so there are always big ones looking for a cheap feed.

I'm originally from Newcastle living in Brisbane. I use to know the area, I know Lake Macquarie use to produce nice prawns and blue swimmer crabs at the right time of year. Just use a floodlight and scoop net in swansea channel before the bridge at night. That was some time ago, new fisheries restrictions may have screwed it up for everyone since. If any one knows when the prawns and crabs run let me know. Peter
