    The Jinx

    Hi Ausfishers
With a recent good run of bream in my local radioactive waste dump ..... I thought it was now time to break my mate DCs run of doughnuts....... After several trips together Dc has failed to manage a legal fish .... but worst still his bad luck affects me
So a quick chat yesterday ...... saw us with a small window this afternoon for a fish together.
Surely armed to the teeth with all the recently successful plastics & lures ........ I was going to succeed in getting DC a decent bream.
I was on the water around an hour before DC was due to meet me .... which gave me the chance to have a quick flick in known fish holding areas!....... well after around 45 mins ......... nada I push a little further than I intended to go & after casting towards a favorite rock ledge with a Squidgy lobby (Dusk) .... I get a little bump & then smash !!!! ....... straight under the rock ledge..... GONE! ......... but at least I got back the opened up jig head ....... A quick change of jig head ...... & another cast & I'm hammered again ....... line is peeling off the Stella ... but this time the fish is up high .....which gives me the opportunity to back the drag off ..... & ease the fish! ..... & lovely 36cm bream is soon landedAttachment 29636 .
The phone rings ....... "I'm at the jetty! " ...... So quick run back to a little local jetty & DCs on board
at this point of time ....... I remind DC of his "JINX" status .... & that since I have already landed a good fish ...... If we fail .....well!!! ...... DC becomes "THE JINX"
We move up the creek quickly as we have a rapidly falling tide ........ the water was uninspiring though at 15.1 Deg , radioactivity was down below 1 Million Curie , reasonably clear + devoid of the usual bait activity & the plagues of Flatones ........ not happy Jan!
As we are starting to loose the light ..... I suggest after picking out my 4th wind knot on the Stella that we only fish a couple of rock walls down near the viaduct! ............ Just as I do the "here fishy fishy whistle" ....... I'm on ... a few stand & deliver head shakes has me thinking a better Croc ...... Then a couple of surface runs , Phew! nice breambo Attachment 29637 ... DC does the honours & takes the pics ..... I'm relieved!
The next 15 mins prove uneventful ..... with only a couple of short takes on the lobby! + 3 more wind knots on the Stella DC made a change to a Rebel wee craw ... with no luck
I give the Stella the flick & fish a switchblade on the Certate T Curve combo ( my favorite) ..... nothing still
Its dark & chilling down fast ...... & with DC having a considerable run home , he calls it quits.
So after the good byes ...... I have a quick flick into some deeper water after changing over to a lobby ......... Two casts .... BANG! ... with a purposeful run to & fro , I know I've got a good un ......... Yep landed & measured .... 37cm Click image for larger version.

Well it was only a short session ..... but with 3 better than average bream landed ..... I crack a Carlton Cold & slowly motor back to the ramp ........ half way back & the beer finished ....... I see something strange in the water ..... a light & then several more "Strange .... as I look at the empty beer bottle" ALIENS!!!! .... & I move closer .... its then that I realise that they a little candles - WTF !Attachment 29643 & photo taken .... I continue the 1km back to the ramp!
So I quickly pull the boat out ...... make the long 5km drive home & decontaminate the boat.

    Cheers

    Nagg

Ps .... I forgot to mention DC is also my most important Client ( & mate) ...... We have also an upcoming trip to the Wisemans Ferry area next month for a weekend away to have a crack at some bream & maybe an EP & or Bass
To overcome the "JINX" ...... I'm having a recon trip up there this weekend!!!! ..... Its a new area for me .. so who knows
Hopefully I'll have something to report!

Thanks AC ........ I'm fishing very shallow water ( usually 1-1.5M) ...... with the deepest at 3 M .......... I guess the Southport channel would be much deeper with a big tidal flow .......... so those drop offs are gold!

    Cheers

Pete ..... Maybe the "JINX" was exorcising the waters ! Not real smart , the water could catch fire with all that jet fuel floating on top

    Hi Nugg

I dont think there is a problem with the line roller ..... but I'll check
I just think its a poor design that doesn't lay the line well ........ when you cast , it will pull a coil of line out from under the line that has been laid over the top! ........ you'll see a a loop that comes off the spool ... up to the first guide & back down to the spool ( the line is doubled) ...... This problem existed from the start ...... I've tried around 10 types of braid ( 4-8lb) + 4lb FC / 3 different rods ...... Its got me beat
Yeh ..... I've gotto help DC get that kicker fish ........ Maybe in 3 weeks time
35-37cm jobs are pretty common in this stretch of water ........ they go really well! ..... But its the ones that I haven't stopped that I want ! ........ I've seen a couple of 40s ( got 1 to the boat) ...... but I reckon there are some evil 45s + in there! ........ you know the ones ( chew up jig heads ..... eat SX48s whole)

    Time will tell

The Stella is the JDM "SR 2000" 2006/07
I hope you're right about the 40s ...... I've got a couple of 41s & a 43 ........ but not in this stretch of water! & with it being virtually unfished , its a matter of time!
Yeh lost a couple of SX48s to fish + some miras ( I caught my first bream in this section of water on a Mira (green)Attachment 29651 ......... but atm I'm getting smashed on most things - placcys & HBs
We will see what happens up the Hawkesbury this weekend

    Nagg,

Fireline remains the most user friendly Braid on the market I believe,
Being flat it lays on the reel much better and I never get wind knots with it ever.
I have tried the true braids like Daiwa Sensor,Nitlon etc.....But in the light stuff it is frustrating with wind knots....Back to fireline...no problems.
