yamaha 50hp 4 stroke????
hi guys im buying a brand new boat rig which is being fitted with a 50hp yammy fourstroke my question is its goin on a 4.6 open tiller boat with front casting deck etc im wondering if theres any others out there with a simliar rig as im chasing fuel consumpion etc and has any one had any faults with this motor?

I have an 5 year old yam 50 on the back of my 4.5m poly. From shorncliffe to tangalooma and back is a tad over 20litres of fuel. Add some fishing and motoring around and your whole day cost you about 30litres.

Pursuit001, the only question that I have is: why not buy the 60 hp Yamaha fourstroke instead? The 60 is the same block and same weight as the 50. The 60 is a little more expensive (no legitimate reason why this shuold be) but more power for the same weight/motor seems logical. Cheers Winston. p.s. Should be a great setup which ever motor you choose.
My dad has one on a hornet trophy 4.35. He's had it for about 4 years I think and he still loves itgreat economy, don't know the figures though.. He did put a foil on it maybe 2 years ago and that helped get the heavy arsed boat on a plane quick smart

I have a 2007 Sea Jay 4.55 Territory ( has the front deck) with a Yammie 50 4 stroke, no issues and are happy,,, as for fuel consumption cant give you exact figures just observations, I usually go about 36 klicks and give a good blast WOT here and there ( tops out just over 50 with 2 onboard and gear.)
1: Viccie Pt to top of Peel ( drift around etc) then down to pelican Banks via Dunwich and return about 12 ltres y.. if straight trip to top of Peel and drifting around ususally two trips per 24ltr tank with safe margin
2: Buggerize around the pin, ie Rudy to Power Lines , Coby etc then to Tigermullett and back around the same useage.
Was told expect around 6 ltres per hr at a nice cruising speed, WOT 12 plus if that helps... Only thing I would say is for one overnighter really packed with camping gear was not great off the mark but thats about it and to be expected, I had a serious amount of gear

i have a 4.75 quinnie with a 50 hp 4 stroke and a can not fault it
starts first time , good on fuel and quiet as
u will not be disapointed mate
i go out all day drag troll baits around and move all the time bottom fishing and the most i have used in 1 day is 50 litres
I have the the 60hp which is the same motor on a Stacer 460 and couldn't be more impressed. When I was researching these I could find nothing but excellent feedback. I get around 8-9lph at cruise 4200rpm and 20 knots but varies depending on conditions and load. Never fails to start 1st go hot or cold, and uses no oil between changes.

Hi pursuit, i run a 2002 60hp yammie carby model with tiller, had it since new,has been completely trouble free to date. I have owned quite a few motors since the 1970s but this one is the most user friendly so far.

hi guys thanks for all the feedback i wanted the the 60 but the company will only fit the max hp which is the 50 i looked into it and seen that the 60 is the same weight also surely the extra 10hp wouldnt harm it

Its going to be just as torquey as the 60 just won't have as much grunt at WOT. The Yam 50/60 is comparitively light 4 stroke - only a few kgs heavier than the 2 st so having the derated 60 is a great option. For example the yam 50 4 st weighs only 8kg more (110 compared to 102) than the new Honda 50, however the Yam is 4 Cyl 996cc compared to Honda 3 cyl 808cc. So in your application where you can take the extra weight you will be ahead in the performance stakes - comparing 4 strokes that is. I am not knocking the Honda cause they are a fantastic motor, just using it as an example in this case.

I have been shopping for a (used) 50 horse 4 banger also.I had a chat to a dealer and mentioned my preference for a Suzuki, ( based on the many good reports i've seen here, although mostly for the larger models I must admit).
Well this guy bagged the suzy, and the Honda as throw away engines, with short designed life.
Now is this guy just pushing his Merc/yammy dealer barrow, or is there some substance to this .
I am considering getting an 04 honda that ive found for my 4.5 CC

Not being the same size, my old boat 6.5m platey ran a 130hp Honda. I had no problems with it. Always started first time, ran very quietly and smooth. It was very good on fuel
