    Snapper: how far North

Notice the annual mid winter knobby snapper run is on again in the Whitsunday/Mackay area. All better than 5kg and all in full spawn mode. How far up do these things go?

I think its generally accepted that they are regularly found as far north as CQ, there was a recent report on here of one caught wide of Yeppoon.

Though there are always exceptions though, such as the sighting of Great white recently near Hinchinbrook Is (???), apparently not the first seen this far north.

Quite common as far as Mackay in the june/july period.

We fish off yeppoon (CQ) regulary and got 2 over 8kg around this time last year fishing in 60ft of water. We were shocked to see them that size this far north. Haven't sighted one so far this year.
