Side console

Hey guys

I am going to put a side console in the tinnie & I was wondering if any one had some ideas that they could show me please I am a bit stuck on where to start it is going in a 4.2 dory

I've just put a centre console (kept the tiller steer, just wanted somewhere for the electronics, and a base for a T Top) in my 445 Dory.
I had similar prob, couldn't decide what material, where how etc. Unless you are an aluminium fabricator or know one can i suggest a custom designed/fabricated plastic console. No not the cheap thin dodgy looking plastic ones in the boating stores, find a plastic welder or fabricator in your area and have a chat. I did just that and the end result is awesome and not too dear either.
One question, do you think a side console is ideal considering the size and style of boat. I would have thought the 4.2 would have leaned a bit with a side console and prob not have travelled well cause of that, i could be wrong.

this is what i done. got the kit from BIAS for around 150 clams from memory.
Its quite sturdy, the plastic is anywhere from 7-10mm thick.

i had 1 made up from alloy , the cost was about $200.

put a screen on so that my gps & sounder stay dry, plenty of room under for battery, bits & pices, medical kit, epbirb & a 5 switch panel.

I have been doing a refit on my 395 Tinnie and adding a side console. I made it out of ply, 9mm mostly, formply sides and 12mm to mount the helm to. Glassed up the inside for support and smoothed the outside with bog and then covered it in vinyl.
