Thread: Gold Coast Tailor.

    Re: Gold Coast Tailor.

    Hey Slider,

Can you post a picture of a lure with the opposite facing 4/0 hooks as opposed to the trebles. I just wanna make sure I'm doing it right!! I've been told by so many people that it's the way to go on metal lures, but can anyone explain exactly why this is the case.

PS- awesome session surfsup! Hopefully there will be a few around in coming days!

    Cheers,

    Simmo

Simmo, my take on the hooks - the singles hold on better due to the gape and length of the hook allowing for greater 'turning' of the hook in the fishs' mouth. A large barb also helps. So it's the size of the hook that is of importance and 5/0 trebles aren't readily available. The 2 singles do have an advantage though in that the 2nd hook can attach in a different location to the first which obviously helps. Trebles, being rigid, only usually gain one point of purchase and if 2 hooks do penetrate then the exit path is identical for both so the same headshake will remove both.
Singles also cast better than large trebles due to wind drag.
However, having used singles and trebles on various slugs over the years, the sliding lure makes by far the greatest difference to the number of fish dropped. The hook set up is helpful and with big tailor on slugs, every advantage is necessary.
