A nice day on the water today thankfully, as a local tackle shop held another catch & release lure only comp in the Noosa River. over all there were 8 boats in the comp meaning 16 fishermen. Ffejsmada and I entered this comp hoping to defend our winning position as we won the last one. After devising a bit of a game plan for the day, we decided we would give the bream a shot. Neither Jeff or I usually target this species so it was a slightly new experience for us both.
Before hitting the pontoons, we gave the river mouth & surrounding areas a try, resulting in Jeff catching 1 legal bream. On the way to our next location we noticed some surface action and hoping for a G.T we stopped in for a flick, Jeff again hooking up twice. First was a solid G.T and next to both our surprise was a long-nosed trevally aroud 40cm which fought well above its weight! After I had no luck on a 7g maniac all morning, Jeff offered me the same lure he had been cashing in on - a 1/8 TT Switchblade resulting in 2 hook-ups on under-sized fish straight away, but fish none-the-less giving me much needed confidence.
Moving on to a new spot, I was in luck this time with a legal bream putting me on the board. After a lot more under-sized fish I managed to jig up a nice whiting from the bottom, going 34cms.
Feeling fairly confident on the run back to the weigh-in, when we got back we learned a lot of other good fish were caught from the competition. Gladly we managed to win our 2nd comp, after a fairly tough (and cold) mornings fishing.
