    Nerang River PB's!!

    Hey Guys,

Me and My mate Tom (coomera-champ101) went out early this morning at about 6am and headed to my spot X. We started of slow until the tide started flowing then the fish did and all of a sudden i was pulling a very decent fish. Then it got close to see tom net, what would have to be the biggest bream of my life, a 40cm Stonker (And my PB . Over the next few hours tom pulled several 30cm+ bream and also breaking is PB of 34cm. It was a great day of fishing and we started letting go the smaller fellas towards the end and ended up with 18 Legal Bream.

Once again prawns were the star bait but the whitebait caught some of the bigger fish.

Dylan do ya want to borrow my GPS for a day ? hows your freezer looking?

    Re: Nerang River PB's!!

    Hey Johnny,

Our freezer still has some from the other day so we only took a few fillets for us and let Tom take the rest home for his family.

The spot we fish is easy to locate it is more of an area than a spot We tend to move around and find where they are at.

    Cheers

    Hey Guys,

Jamie: They do seem to be biting pretty strongly but today and even the other day when we caught 22 they were never really thick, they was just here and there, doesnt matter aslong as they come. You have to keep a few to get enough for a feed but as i said the smaller legal ones started getting released towards the end.

Chief: 2 Pb's on the one trip is great, Tom was very happy with his 34cm PB but i had to keep reminding him of my 40cm beast.

Keechie: They really do pull hard, just as I had hooked it a boat had started coming and He noticed the fish and started to stop so i could get it in because it was taking some drag (He actually has played cricket with tom and was happy to stop), he stopped for a few minutes and got to see our good spot but i was impressed on how aware he was to stop and actually turn is motor off aswell. It gets your heart pumping when you see a 40cm flash coming from the water.

    Hey Whiting Wizard,

The prawns do tend to fall off a bit, But if they dont, bream seem to love em.

Im definetly stoked with how weve been going lately. The last 7 trips have all produced 10+ Legals.

This session seemed to have more quality fish with 5 going over the 30cm mark, hopefully this is a sign of the size starting to increase at it gets colder.

    Dylan,

You guys seem to be all over them with the bait, but have you tried the lures on them in your good spots?

I know it is hard to stop using bait when you are catching good fish, but if you know the fish are on in that area it should be a good way to refine your luring techniques.

Anyway, well done fellas - keep it up

    Hey Marty,

We gave the area a go for about 2 hours on saturday arvo with lures for nothing, didnt even get a touch. There must be something we were doing wrong. I was switching between a TT Switchblade and an Atomic Prong 3" Shrimp with light weight and Tom was using a TT switchblade and 3" Power Minnow in Pearl watermelon also with light weight. We were retrieving the lures with a lift on the rod and flicking and winding then let it sink and do it again.

Its really not giving me any hope to want to continue with the lures as i am catching so many with bait and none with lures. What to people think, stay with bait, go to lures and work harder?????,........(Ill always bait fish with my dad as he is never going to change over unless i get like 50Legals on plastics/HB's in one session)

    Cheers

    Dylan,

I am guessing when you bait fish you are anchored up and fishing with the current? How are you fishing with lures - I mean are you anchored up or moving around in the boat? I know you don't really have an income, but a bow mount electric motor makes it so much easier to fish lures

My mate is a good Bream lure fisho (fishes a few of the local tournaments) and he fishes the Nerang too - sounds like a similar area to you (he is around the Sorrento area). Maybe we can try to catch you on the water one day and he can give you a few tips?

It would just be a case of both being on the water at the same time - he mainly fishes Sundays.

    Hey Marty,

I know the electric motor would definetly be a help for lure fishing, but im not convinced enough on lures to spend that yet. When we have been fishing with lures we have just been drifting around the area and idle-ing to keep us away from boats and rocks etc. If we could meet up with you or your mate on the water one day that would be great. Maybe If you gave 1 or 2 days notice that would be great
