Windy Pine sesh - Fri 13th

I collected my mate Pete Friday arvo after work on the way home. Pretty calm conditions but a bit of wind, flew home, hooked up the tinny and in the water about 6:00pm. Raced from deeepwater bend upstraem to get some livies. This is where I got a bit disappointed, I was throwing the net and managed to snare my first ever Jewfish in the bloody cast net. That's a 4xD cell maglite.

I figure it doesn't really count yet because it was all accidental, so I am still a Jewfish virgin. Put it back and had a few more throws and got some mullet. I have found fresh mullet strips to be working fairly well in the pine lately, then headed for the mouth.

We couldn't give any livies away, but fresh mullet & a good old chat kept us entertained until about 1:30am. By then we had been blown inside out by the wind, and decide it was time for hot coffee at home.

Bagged a couple of flatties, the best went just over 50,

and a few bream, best about 31

and this is what the flatty looked like last time I saw it.

Good to bring a couple home 4 a change.

    Mate,

Great stuff. I love getting out on the Pine mid-week, nobody around and a feed to boot. Did you get the flatties in the channel or on the banks? My last ones were under the bridge in the channel which I didn't expect.

    Thanks,

    Dave

Dave, I got them pretty much right where you said.
Just a tiny bit downstream from the hornibrook bridge, right
on the edge of the channel.

I was trying to decide if it was worth an outing on Monday night, I never put much faith in "bite" prediction software packages but, leading up to a full moon, tides look good and even with the wind ...

I think your flatty has convinced me.

Some amazing fish have found their way into my cast net in the past too including a flathead that went nearly 90cms (released of course). I once caught the biggest scat I have ever caught in the cast net too. Good to see you had fish for dinner. I had fresh boneless flatty fillets last night too. Thanks for the report.

Lapras: I have the bite predictor too, but I don't put too much faith in what it says, I have caught some of my best fish when it said "don't bother" and had quiet nights when it said they should be jumping into the boat. Just being out there is good enough for me. a feed really is a bonus LOL.

Poo: Glad 2 hear u r gettin a feed, I love the looks of ya new boat - I hope she is doing the right thing by ya. Nothin like a bit of lizard and a nice mellow red for dinner eh?

Now i wil hi-jack my own thread, I have a week on the Darling in Bourke next month, I have caught M.Cod before down there ( more by good luck than good management ), but me and the boys will be concentrating more on the fishin than the shooting this time, any assistance re: Muzzas would be muchly appreciated.

I have a selection of poppers, divers, and plastic frogs etc. but if anyone has a sure fire thing for murray cod, I would love to hear it.

    Thanks........ Shane
