How many hours on an Optimax
I have a Seafarer Victory with a 150 carb Mercury with 215 hours. I had the oportunity to upgrade to a 2007 175 Optimax with 500 hours. I was thinking that was a few to many hours for a second hand motor although it wasn't that old.
Has anyone got any thoughts on how many hours an Optimax is good for before it's time to change again. My current setup gives about 1.2km per litre, I was expecting the Optimax to return better. Any thoughts on the ecomomy for a 175 or 200 optimax on a Victory also.
thanks

Re: How many hours on an Optimax
mate - i am told by a very trusted bloke who is a Merc Dealer that they are good for close to 2000 hours before a re-build is getting near...he reckons they stripped down a 200 that had been turned on the bar and it had done 1200 odd hours and looked like new inside...he is guessing that 2000 or a bit over would start to attract a re-build, but he hasnt had to do one because of old age...
Cheers
