Sooner Or Later, it has to happen

Just got home from an awesome trip down the pin with "For Steve" in my boat. Not a lot of time to tell the story, I am home for 5 mins before going to a memorial service - Pics to follow of a Jewie caught on a Moldy Cheese 3" Gulp. But the best part? Only 10lb main line and 5lb leader. Deckie Brad handled everything perfectly, manouvering the boat to keep him in deep water. Shortly after Poodroo arrived to inspect the trophy, after a quick boast on marine radio.

With the worst luck I have been having lately aligning weekends that didn't conflict with the family calendar and good weather, I finally got out to test the new prop and charge the batteries. Beeeeaaaauuuutttiiiifuuuull!!!!

Was a nice fish to have landed. I managed a few bream and released them all. The only thing I kept in the end was a nice table flathead. Well done Scalem on landing that nice Jewfish. I think I should hire myself out as a cameraman from now on. Here are the pics.

why not????? alot of pro bream blokes i've met use 4lb crystal line main and 2lb F/C leader.

Good question Jeff,

My rigs are normally set up for chasing Bay Snaps, but with the wind predictions decided to chase bream in the Pin instead. I have noticed that using the same 12 - 15lb leader i use for snaps is far to heavy for bream, so I bought the 5lb flurocarbon. The closest compromise for bream I had on any of my reels was 10lb main line. So the Jewie grabbed a Moldy cheese gulp intended for bream. The tiny Jig head lodged in the corner of the mouth, and the fish kept running under the boat for what seemed an eternity, and the only way I could start fighting fairly was to climb onto the nose of my runabout to get the line out from underneath the boat. From there Brad skillfully kept the boat positioned so I could keep the fish on one side. Thanks Poodroo for the photos, your reward will be enjoyed when it hits your barby plate

He knows how to use his camera . I was saying to Brad, without the Jewie it was still a fantastic day. The wind was not an issue like at 1st thought.

You bet! When we 1st got a glimps and knew it was Jewie, I said to Brad I don't care if he breaks free now, I have had it beside the boat - I was preparing myself for possible dissapointment, especially when the fish rolled on its side, and the line got caught in its Gill plate and dorsal fin. I thought I was a goner then for sure!

from the SW was not a problem. It stayed quite flat and I don't think I really ever noticed the wind was a problem.

Totally awesome. Can't wait for a taste. Seems incredible that I have been fishing most of my life as you know and to date I have not tasted a jew. Much appreciated. "For Steve" it was great to see you again as well. I am sure you had a great day on the water with Scalem. I think that you have now had a taste of how I have often felt fishing alongside Scalem in his boat. Dog gawnit he always outfished me. Why do you think I went out and purchased a boat of my own? If you feel too dejected you can always deckie for me some day. At least you can be assured that I won't show you up.
It was also good to catch up with Aigutso and his lovely wife. At the ramp I was very surprised to see Pinhead with his fantastic new boat. Hope you all had a great day on the water.

Congratulations Scalem on an awesome fish. I can't take any credit mate - you were a true pro the way you fought with that monster on light gear.

Thanks for the trip mate. I got to practice my knots with all the times I got snagged and now can replace a heap of jigheads and leader, and the rod I snapped the tip off.

By the way, time to get a bigger net.

I be very polite to the skipper and ALWAYS let them catch the quality fish. For example, yesterday I was with SummerTrance at Mud Is when he skillfully caught his PB bay snapper. And today with Scalem at the pin when he got that beauty and a haul of bream. Out of respect on both of these occasions I decided not to catch a single legal fish. That's my story anyway...have to keep some self-confidence.
