A few months back I was fishing from a tinny in the Maroochydore river, when a 2m shark did a belly flop about 15 mts from me, .
I told my neighbour who did not believe me, then 3 days later told me he had been sitting on his balcony and seen it do the same thing, has anyone seen this before.

I havent seen sharks jump in maroochy river but I have seen them jump in the pine right in the middle of the ski area.
A guy who I used to work for fishes regularly for sharks aroung the cod hole and apparantly he has caught some 1.5 m plus models.
Cheers Craig
I did not tell any one about it at first ,a part from the neighbour in case they through I was daft .It was about 180 mts from the cod hole area.
It was the first time I had been out fishing on my own, nearly sh** myself
Probably they were bull sharks. It is a very common sight around the Pin area. Bull sharks are like mullet - they're in the jumping business.
saw one a while ago at noosa river mouth which would have been at least 2 meters. it had it's dorsal fin and tail out of the water while it was cruising over shallow sand banks early in the morning.
Seen it in the Logan River too. Only a small bull shark, maybe 1.3m at a guess, about 20m away lept out of the water... interesting!
hey skipper,
i have never seen anything like that before in my life. but the only thing i can add to this thread is that you were lucky it didn't jump IN your boat, like what happened to that poor tourist in the states back along where a sting ray jumped into their boat and killed her.
I dropped my rod an held on to the side of the tinny,I remember saying out loud what the **** was that, even though I knew what it was. I was looking around to see if anyone else had seen it, but there was no one around.
I can laugh now but I wasn't then.
would have been a whole different fear if you were in a kayak
I wrestled a 5 foot tiger when I was much younger up in New Guinea. Got a slap in the goolies for my troubles from its tail. Spoke with a falsetto voice for the rest of the day . True story.
I had a bull shark about a metre or so, leap out of the water only 10 or so metres from where I was standing on my fordeck casting SP's and I just happened to be looking right at that spot. (I often hear large splashes and see the wake, but rarely are you looking at the spot and its over so quick, if ya blink ya missed it) It was spiraling as it lept. Awesome sight. I cast my SP worm out in that direction out of interest and hooked up . . . on a little suckerfish. Camera was at home that day so I dont tell many people about catching a suckerfish on SP.
