This week had some pretty nice looking tides for a Jew, so decided to head out last night as there would be very few boats due to state of origin...conditions were sensational, but didn't have time to get livies, so used some frozen yakkas + mullet fillets.
Had the lines out for 20 minutes and bloody work started calling me...while on the phone to them, the rod with the yakka took off at a blistering rate...threw the phone down, but the bugger had gone directly under the boat and kept going and going....knew the inevitable ping was only a matter of time(Line was right in under the motor), and I was right...lost him and a fair wack of line.
Re-rigged, and sent another yakka down.
30 minutes later, the rod with the mullet fillet took off....Couple of really nice runs before I saw the big silver beast(You beauty!)...now the challenge was to land him(Quite difficult in a tinnie by yourself!) With rod in one hand, I reached down and grabbed the gaff...looked at the end and noticed I hadn't taken the bloody plastic tip protector off!! I tried pulling it off to no avail, so had to reach down into my tackle box, grab my braid scissors, and cut the bloody thing off(The whole time I've got the rod in one hand, and the Jewie is not too impressed about being boatside!!). Gaffed him, and with a bit of effort bought him in(Relief is an understatement!!)
Almost as soon as I'd landed him, it started pissing down with rain....so time to make a quick dash back to the ramp, and home.
Pics aren't the best, but only have my mobile phone, and pretty hard to take a pic holding a fish when you're by yourself
He went ~110cm, and ~14 kg's
Missed state of origin, but reckon the Jewie made up for it
Nice fish there Frank, best eating size too that model.

Great fish mate, Im still chasing my first. Im sure I dropped one near the boat last week, I went for the net and the line went slack......aaaargh. Id trade the footy for that fish anyday.
What do you call good tides? Im going fri nite, but I thought next SUn/Mon was better? I thought lotsa run like 1.5m was good for jew. We had some pretty small tides and half moon last night....goes to show what I know about em.
cheers
Andrew
Awesome fish for the goldie - definitely worth missing the footy for.
Hey Andrew - Jew are pretty lazy mate.....small tides and the turn of the tide == Very little water moving...they tend to venture out a bit in search of a feed.
Mick.
Turn of the tide, top or bottom, is when you want your bait in the water. The jew don't wait all week until the tides are right, they will consistently feed at every possible opportunity. When the tide is running you will find them in pressure waves and behind structure down deep out of the current, as soon as the tide slows and slackens its on!
