I finally got a chance to hit Wivenhoe dam today for the first time ever with a good mate Steve.
First thing was casting surface lures into these shallow grass areas. We did not get any fish from this but had 2 rises with no hookups. Things were not starting to look good. I was still confident and a change of scenery was what was in order
There was a steep bank which rose from 9m up to a big weed peak and that was all it took. My TN60 was smashed and line started to level my baitcaster at a fair pace. After a good fight the first fish made an appearance. It gave a great account of itself and was promptly place in the livewell. The fish weighed 2.49kg and measured 53cm to the fork.
We later moved over to the other side of the dam and once again I found a few fish. I quickly boated 2 fish in succession and they ranged from 35-42cm. But these 2 fish were fat and had been gorging pretty hard over the previous day or two, but were grossly out of proportion due to their high levels of feeding. Next few casts I managed a tiny Barred Grunter which I have never caught. A few casts later I hooked a fresh water GT (CATFISH).
What a great dam to fish and I had a great time in some pretty ordinary conditions.
Cheers
