Nerang Bream - Saturday 7th
Have my Mum, Brother and his 3 1/2 year old daughter up with us for a couple of days, went to Seaworld yesterday and today decided to take Bella for a ride in the Hornet and see if we could get her on to her first fish.
Put in at the Casino at a very respectable 11.30am and headed straight up to a favorite spot in the Nerang River. After getting my wife Germana, my brother Will and Bella sorted with lines and that some frozen prawns, I finally got to wet a line and managed the first fish of the day, a very nice 28cm fork bream on a TT Switchblade, that would be about it for me as I was happy to re-bait hooks, net and release fish for the next couple of hours as the others slayed them. I rigged them up with 4lb Fireline and 4lb Sunline leader with a 1/24th Nitro jighead and the stinky prawns. The idea was to fish the prawns the same as you would an SP, casting tight into the structure.
The highlight of the day had to be seeing Bella catch her first ever fish , a small undersized Whiting. With a little help from Dad, she managed to wind it in and then grab the net to land the fish. I'll tell you, the smile on her face was worth a million bucks. She then proceeded to get a second one shortly after .
Another memorable moment was watching my wife pull the two biggest bream (very respectable 31 & 32 cm to the fork) of the day, from some very ugly cover, with the grace and finesse of a seasoned pro, its been a while since I have seen rod work like that. But now that she has out fished me on two successive trips I won't be inviting her back on board for a while
Will managed to grab a variety of different species including whiting, flathead & bream to keep him happy. All up for around 3 hours on the water around 25 bream were boated with about 15 being legal. All were released except the two largest which were very nice for dinner tonight.
All up it was a fantastic day on the water, with everyone having a great time.
Cheers

It takes a good skipper to be able to put the crew onto fish. Just keep telling her that, and youll be ok....
I do the same for my missus, otherwise she might say 'sell the boat' lol. Theres method in this madness.

Great post and pics JT, your outing epitomises what fishing's all about, ie quality time!
Mind you, as Andrew said above, you sure had them using the 'gun' gear for the job!
Cheers.

Hey Marty, mate the way I am fishing at the moment, I would be out fished by your newest arrival when ever he/she decides to make an appearance. Thanks again too for the loan of the life jacket.
Andrew, good thinking, I'll remember that.
Cheers Nigel, would do the same without hesitation, the look of joy and excitement on Bella's face is something we'll happily relive with the video we took.
Cheers
