Hello Fellow Ausfishers,
Originally I was not going to post up a report because there was nothing really to report fish wise but then I had a re-think and realized that sometimes it is not always about the fish and that there was something to report. I headed out from Manly yesterday Friday 6th.June in the early hours for a plastics session with fellow Ausfisher Wynott around Mud Island. Unbelievable just how smooth the conditions were considering our recent bad spell of weather. An uneventful trip to Mud Island in the dark found us on our spot at just before sunrise and we were greeted by a picturesque sunrise that warranted a couple of photos. The fish were eager to bite however we seemed to be able to find the nursery wherever we fished. Undersized Cod, Squire, Whiptails, and oversized grinner seemed to find their way into the boat with a constant regularity but no keepers. As the sun came up I found my way into a current line that I decided to drift in hope of finding a big snapper but it wasn’t meant to be. Instead we found that there was a heap of pollution gathered up in what seemed to be an endless supply of floating weed so we started picking up floating bottles, empty fertilizer bags, you name it, it was in there. Appalled by how much rubbish was floating around Mud Island we gave up in disgust realizing I could not accommodate it all in the boat. If the fish were as abundant as the litter we would have bagged out for sure.
Soldier on we did continually searching for that elusive PB snapper but our day was not going to yield one this time. At least there was a lot of time for some friendly banter amongst friends and some tuition on how to fish with plastics and what rigs and gear was best suited to that style of fishing. Considering that there was no wind I think I did very well on demonstrating wind knots with braid. A day out on the water is never a lost cause so long as the following are involved.
1/ Good company.
2/ Good weather.
3/ Safe arrival back home.
All in all we had a great day out and I thank Wynott for being such great company and an awesome deckie. We saw pods of dolphins, turtles, loads of baitfish and some of the flattest conditions ever out there. Also thanks to BlueFin59 for stopping to say hello. Always a pleasure to chat with you. It is not always about catching fish, sharing the experience with friends is also a great day out regardless.
Regards,
Poodroo
