Another Great Day on The Water With Fellow Ausfisher

    Hello Fellow Ausfishers,

Originally I was not going to post up a report because there was nothing really to report fish wise but then I had a re-think and realized that sometimes it is not always about the fish and that there was something to report. I headed out from Manly yesterday Friday 6th.June in the early hours for a plastics session with fellow Ausfisher Wynott around Mud Island. Unbelievable just how smooth the conditions were considering our recent bad spell of weather. An uneventful trip to Mud Island in the dark found us on our spot at just before sunrise and we were greeted by a picturesque sunrise that warranted a couple of photos. The fish were eager to bite however we seemed to be able to find the nursery wherever we fished. Undersized Cod, Squire, Whiptails, and oversized grinner seemed to find their way into the boat with a constant regularity but no keepers. As the sun came up I found my way into a current line that I decided to drift in hope of finding a big snapper but it wasn’t meant to be. Instead we found that there was a heap of pollution gathered up in what seemed to be an endless supply of floating weed so we started picking up floating bottles, empty fertilizer bags, you name it, it was in there. Appalled by how much rubbish was floating around Mud Island we gave up in disgust realizing I could not accommodate it all in the boat. If the fish were as abundant as the litter we would have bagged out for sure.

Soldier on we did continually searching for that elusive PB snapper but our day was not going to yield one this time. At least there was a lot of time for some friendly banter amongst friends and some tuition on how to fish with plastics and what rigs and gear was best suited to that style of fishing. Considering that there was no wind I think I did very well on demonstrating wind knots with braid. A day out on the water is never a lost cause so long as the following are involved.
    1/ Good company.
    2/ Good weather.
    3/ Safe arrival back home.

All in all we had a great day out and I thank Wynott for being such great company and an awesome deckie. We saw pods of dolphins, turtles, loads of baitfish and some of the flattest conditions ever out there. Also thanks to BlueFin59 for stopping to say hello. Always a pleasure to chat with you. It is not always about catching fish, sharing the experience with friends is also a great day out regardless.

    Regards,

    Poodroo

good onya for getting out there and enjoying the day. I sit here wondering why I even bought the damn boat..seems like crap weekend weather ever since I bought it. Damn, I should take a sickie sometime or maybe some annual leave but hang on..I don't get any of that. Maybe working for a boss is not that bad after all.

Good to see you enjoyed yourselves ..just a pity about the lack of fish.

You know what they say Poodroo.....the worst day fishing, blah blah.
My only question is fishing can't be measured in worst/good because it's all good. I am sure you'd agree, top looking sunrise too

Champion effort on the clean up mate and your report on not having the big fish turn it on,that can also boost the confidence of someone else who is questioning their own results for the day or help with someone planning their important time to plan for a fishing trip.Always enjoy your reports and your down to earth feel for the bay,Cheers

Thanks Greg. As your own boss I think you will have to tell yourself to take at least a week off and enjoy your new boat. Apart from that you will have to hope that the usual pattern of crap weather on weekends stops soon.

Yup I totally agree. I had the week off work last week and I have to say I would rather be on the water daily than at work daily. Chalk and cheese really.

Thanks chief. I appreciate the sentiments especially from you. Would love to hook up with you one day and learn some tricks to fishing the Brissy river if you would care to part with that knowledge.

Matt I think you do enough fishing for everyone. Have fun back at work next week and best off luck on your charter. Tight lines.

Yes, I must say, it was a great day.
    Thanks again Andrew.
But you still have not converted me to plastics yet, but thanks for the lesson.
    Go the bait!!!!!!

Here are some pics of the light show that was put on for us during the morning:

I could not get over the training Andrew went to to show me how much fun fishing with plastics and braid was.
He even went to the trouble of showing me how to get out of a wind knot.

Thanks Andrew, but I am puzzled how you get a wind knot when there was no wind.

    The weather was just perfect:

Next time, I may be searched to ensure that I have not sneaked any bait on board.

It is good to stop and see what other humans dont see when we are out there on the water. I fish dusk and see some of the best sunsets and wonder if anyone else is seeing the afternoon like me. It is just as good as catching that PB when you are away from our so called work that we so called needed for the banks and my ol mate the tax man. I love the bay so much i spend every second night on it and it is good to see the sunrise is just as good and if you fish the right time and day you will be rewarded with some food for the family and pick up your PB just that little bit more. Cheers.

Lol choppa. I know there is something very wrong with the whole picture as you are right. I normally come home with a feed. I really don't know what happened my last two trips but if I was relying on a feed of fish to stop me from starving to death I wouldn't be here typing right now. I really hope that I can attend the M&G at Bribie but I will have to be someone's deckie seeing as my boat is not an offshore rig. Hoping my uncle has a spare spot. Thanks for holding onto that bag for me too. I should just bite the bullet and make a special trip to see you.

    Cheers,

    Poodroo

Firstly Graham you're most welcome. It was a pleasure to have you onboard.

Secondly I am as confused as you are how I managed the wind knot from hell without so much as a slight breeze. (I could try to convince you that it was intentional just to show you what a wind knot was but doubt that you would have believed me.)

Thirdly if I so much as sniff a bait smell on you next time you'll be flicking bait around the boat ramp until I return from my outing.
