    tailor time

First of the making lows pre-dawn is a choice tide to fish, sometimes.
A window presented, so out of a nice warm bed at 3.30am, cup of coffee, suit up and over to the beach.
After the first wave down the (chest) waders, started to get orientated.
Missed the first couple bites, so decided to rig the gama gangstars, always deadly.
Over the next hour or so, pulled in the four tailor pictured, the largest of equaled my PB at 10lb gutted, gilled and scaled.
I'd call it at 4.8kg, a pretty good tailor for these parts.
These fish will feed my wife and I and our teenage son, our daughter and her two kids, plus two pensioner couples and another elderly lady. Also some beaut snapper bait, so no fish went to waste.
To further enhance the session, all fish were cleaned on-site, much to the delight of the seagulls, and I retired from the beach without a witness.
    Cheers!

Nice work NIGEL! Where did you go? Gold Coast? I've heard they've been braining some top fish at Cabarita/Pottsville although with the Greenback Comp this weekend, it'll probably send them out for a few days (too much light & activity on the beaches...).

Mate - very nice. I get a good feed of tailor from the boat at the Pin Bar...but always choppers, never a nice greenback...one day. I fish them up with gangs on pichards...perhaps I should did out the bumperbars...

    Cheers

    Re: tailor time

    Thanks a lot guys.
I'm located just south of Coffs Harbour.
Didn't do a proper measure job plaztix, but about 73cm or so I think.
Ozscott, try substituting those pillies for some mullet strips about 12-15cm long.
I rig them on a 3 gang of Gamakatsu gangstars, deadly sharp hooks. The larger tailor love mullet and tailor strips, and squid for that matter. Always a chance to pick up a schoolie also.
    Gotta love those stealth missions!
Great looking flying side kick (?) kingcobe!
    Cheers all.

    Re: tailor time

Thats a great quality bag youv'e got there. The big one puts you into the 10lber club . I'm still waiting for one that big
Was it the humble pilly or a more exotic bait
Hopefully I can break my 10lb cherry in July when I hit Woody Head for a week

    cheers

    Re: tailor time

Neil, strips of salted mullet fillet on a 3 gang of 5/0 gama gangstars.
Have found strips of mullet, tailor or squid way better for the larger fish.
If I ever use pillies, I only use 1/2 a pillie on a 2 hook gang, seems to take the larger choppers.
Mate, best wishes for July, should be prime time for you guys up there.
We have had an excellent early season so far, but the salmon are apparently not far away so that will change the mix, unfortunately.
I've been told that a strip of skinned salmon flesh makes a great greenback bait. I'm keen to try it out, might be a useful way to use salmon!
    Cheers.
