    New barra spinning reel

Hi guys just want some help deciding my next reel. Choices are a stella 4000, certate 3500hd or 2500r heard some stories about the hd having a very noisy bail roller wich I don't think would bother me too much. Will be buying O/S and the reel will be predominantly used for impoundment barra with some reef/pelagic work aswell (maybe that rules out the 2500 interested to hear thoughts) after any experience anyone has had with these reels.

    thanks Tim

The Stella might be the better choice due to the slightly higher retrieve ratio ....... Though any of the Certates will serve you well ( more robust) ..... for less coin

Timm I've got both the 2500R and the 3500HD. testing both this weekend @ Monduran but my money is on the 2500R. Just a bit lighter and more comfortable to use but more than capable of working a barra in the sticks. has also done very well on the reefs, to date my best was 15kg jew on 20lb line/ 12lb leader. very smooth drag(upgraded to carbontex) with more balls than my Zillion(also upgraded to carbontex).

    Re: New barra spinning reel

Mate I have both the 2500r and the 3500hd.

The 2500r is spooled with about 200m of 20lb braid and it s a great little reel. It has the line capacity you are after and also has a pretty big drag rating and it can actually back up the rating.

The 3500HD is an absolute machine. I have about 300m of 17kg braid and I love using the 3500hd. The more I use it the lighter it seems to become. It’s another powerhouse with a massive drag that will easily do what you are wanting from the reel.

Both will serve you well and do what you are asking, but I suspect that the 3500hd, whilst being a bit heavier and bigger, will probably last longer and is more in line with what you are targeting. The 3500hd also has no problem knocking over big fish and I have caught a heap of good kings on it, a big thready and a few pelagics.

    Cheers

    Tim,
I have only used the Certate so i can only comment on that reel. They are the ants pants in my opinion, so smooth and the drag is like silk! 4th cast ever on the 3500 and i landed a 97cm, and was stoked with its quality-previously used other brands other than Daiwa. Also got it reasonably priced if you shop around and bargin with the stores.

I used a 4000 size Stella at Awoonga and it was strong and sweet. The drag was very smooth and it cast a slickrig a country mile.
    I want one.

    Re: New barra spinning reel

Awesome thanks for the replies, I've used a 4000 stella before (bottom bashing) and enjoyed it but I love daiwas, although I haven't used either of the certates. Nagg I think the higher ratio of the stella would definately be a bonus for the types of fishing I would mainly use it for. Also price wise I believe I may even be able to get a stella a smidgen cheaper than a 3500HD so price difference is really not an issue. Still really haven't made a choice but I'm starting to lean towards the shimano.

    Thanks Tim
