Scarborough today
Arrived at scarby ramp around 5.45am (sleeped in, us old guy's need our sleep)
Checked out a couple of areas but no bait schools , so just decided to try in about 5m water with the trusty mullet bait. Just pickers until around 7-7.30 when I had 2 good hits but as soon as I grabed the rod both times and started to retreive lost both.Thought that they had not been hooked properly, but in both cases the hook had been bitten off cleanly. Has anyone a clue as to what they were as both seemed to be very good fish. I use a 10lb flurocarbon leader and have not had this problem before in this area. Thinking of increasing leader to 20lb but this may reduce my catch rate. Around 10am I boated a nice 60 cm to tail snapper. This fish was nice and plump and weighed in at over 5lb. By 11am decided to call it a day and returned to the ramp.

Re: Scarborough today
Hey Crabbie well done on the Snaps. I would think either a Chopper Tailor or Green Toad its happened to me before....

Re: Scarborough today
My guess would be Choppers - I have upgraded to 14 lb leader from usual 8 to 10lb as i keep getting bitten off around Bribie at present. It does not need to be a particularly big chopper to bite through 10lb leader. 30 cm fish are quite capable of it if they are hungry.

Re: Scarborough today
I'd say it would either chopper tailor or sharks. I often catch sharks around scarbie reef. Mind you I did have a good run from a mackeral about 2 months ago, got it upto the kayak but it bit me off.

Plenty of grey suits around at scarborough and if your using flesh bait you will hook your fair share of them.

Re: Scarborough today
Thanks for the imput fellas,
I must admitt mackeral and bull sharks did cross my mind, but for some reason did not consider tailor. Guess I will just have to land one of the mongrels to find out & maybe get some rusty hooks back.
