I think the problem sometimes is the bay can be "hot and cold" and the solution to that would be to explore outside your usual huants and have a few different spots up your sleeve to try just incase some of the others have shut down(for snapper/squire fishing that is)!!! Cheers and good luck!!!
You're coming along as my 'Brag Mat' on my next trip fella! Ahhh yes, the bay is dead - except for those pulling in Snap's with regular monotony to 7-8kg... You just don't see them reporting here... (You know who i'm talking about ALB ) Btw, Ad's, got my times wrong today when speaking with you, not next week but the following week to fish Spot #%^&*... Someone also mentioned a trip down the coast in the next week or 2 for you know what...

Can't wait to see the photos T, I know you are good, but when so many of the regular producers are reporting the same thing, majority rules in my books. There's something wrong with the bay ATM that's for sure. Whats that GPS mark you have again? Oh, the same one that lead me to the car park ...... At A Raptis and sons!!

    Re: Mud today

Fore sure you might snag a big fish, both of my best snapper have been in last 12 months, but my point is that beside those 2 big fish there was only a couple of other keepers taken compared to 06 when many fish in the 40-60 cm range were caught, and do any agree with the scenario i threw up earlier?.

###i will put something to you all! and you can either agree or not, the bay is a big body of water but the areas where reef fish will gather is much much smaller and the snapper will congregate at these places, with the advent and use of soft plastics we saw great catches of snapper, ie they worked very well, to look at it another way if you were a shooter as i am and you hunted on a huge paddock that only had a few waterholes you would think the game was plentifull as you hunted at the waterholes where the game gathered until you had taken all the game, then you realise your left with a barren paddock, could it be the same with the snapper?, we all know the relativelly small areas where they will be and with the advent of plastics it would seem like they were in abundance until we had really belted the numbers, know what i mean?.###

LMAO SCALEM!!! Trust me Brian, if it was me, you (& everyone on this site) would have ssen the photo's accompanied with lots of ZZZZZZZZZZZZ! But all i can report is lot's of ZZZZZZZZZZZ with no pic's as proof! I'm not having any trouble attracting and hooking up the brutes but on every occassion in the last few months, i've lost every brute to structure - man, i've got to be so close to actually having one hit the deck!!!! All on baits btw but still on 'lighter' line which is perhaps why i'm not having any trouble getting the hook-ups - but the light line is not holding up when the battle hots up...

The fish i referred to in my previous post have all been on BAITS - none reported on SP's to that size.

    Re: Mud today

i agree they have gone very very quite over the last 12 months
there is still good fish being caught but few and far between with the
amount of lines in the water some one is going to catch a few good fish
i must admit alley cat i have thought the same thing about the plastiics
maybe they have flogged the place out a lot of people only report when they
get a good catch and dont mention the other half dozen trips before that
when they went fishless may be time for some seasonal closures they are declining and with the price of fuel

    Re: Mud today

Hello to all, As a new member to Ausfish and a Soft Plastic convert I think that the number of people who fish Mud might have a bit to do with the reduced numbers of good fish. My last trip to Mud, a few weeks back now, my wife counted 47 boats either drifting or anchored on the western to northern parts of Mud. When we ventured around to the East side there was another floatila of boats. If this area continues to get flogged like it does, it will be difficult to catch even a bloody grinner. I, like Poodroo do not keep fish under the 40cm mark, and when I do it is just enough for a meal, not a freezer ful. There has been occasions when I have seen fish smaller than the legal 37cm mark stay in some boats. Yes, they are not Ausfish marked boats.
With the R2M not far away, maybe we should introduce a "Catch and Release" process, as for the Flathead Classic, so the numbers of Snapper are not reduced just for the prestige of a trophy. If we, as fisherman, do not look after our recreational fishing grounds, the EPA will have further ammunition and reason to close them all.

    regards, Mark

Legal limit for snapper/squire in Queensland is 35cm.

Bait you say?? Big BIG BIG catties or reef sharks are all I used to catch on bait around Mud, but hey, I trust your judgment on it T, you definitely felt the tell tail head shakes then mate? Didn't you? LOL
Try some Nylon coated wire next time for a look see what they are. Got to catch up for a cast or two soon mate, I have to see things for myself.

Brian, I didn't say MUD... yes, i've missed a few at Mud (& yes my friend, definitely Snaps' as i landed the only BIG Cattie i hooked there) but some of the more mind boggling one's have been elsewhere ! You'd be very surprised where they're hanging about at the moment... And i'm not sharing it here... so we will have to get together soon as it's been a while! Wife only has 8-9 weeks to go so my window of opportunities will be shut in about 4-5 weeks.
