    Compost Worms for Bait

I have a Worm farm for composting food scraps, and have a healthy population of worms.
I oftem grab a few worms, chop them up and feed them to my Tropical fish - Ghost knife, Discus, Clown Loaches etc. love 'em.
I was wondering if they would be good for Whiting or Bream in the rievers, or Dart Tailor, Jew Bream etc of the beach.

Has anyone had much success with them?
    Cheers Brendan

I also feed them to my Ghost knife fish, I don't chop them up though he just wolfs them down whole even the fat ones about 6 inches lond disappear in a flash, loves them, has a bit of a peck on your fingers to make sure you arn't hiding any.

They are good in fresh water for most fish, never tried them in salt water.

    Re: Compost Worms for Bait

the compost worms are called tiger worms and when you put a hook in them they spurt a yellow smelly fluid they are definately no good for trout as i have tried on many occasions without success . the red garden worms however are good for all fresh water fish. i have used them on the beach and have caught whiting and bream but they tend to go limp and shrivelled after a short time they are a great bait for bream in the brackish water coop

paul,,, with tiger worms,,, (depending on what compost there in,,,) try flushing em,,,

i'm going back to the days of being reared in gippsland,,, and found tiger's 200% more livelier than standard garden worms,,,

to flush em,,,wet newspaper and tealeaves left over from the kettle was what the old man used to use,,, i left them in clean sawdust for a day,,,

Wet newspaper shredded and a bit of bran in a dark container with some airflow and purge them for a couple of days and they will gorge themselves and plump right up. They work OK but not tried on trout.

    Thanks Gents,
I will give them a purge before I use them.
I am not sure what breed mine are, as I have had them for so long now.
I also have some nice fat earthworms I will try as well.
