    OMC tacho problems

    Just a question,
    recently replaced a 70HP evinrude (3cyl) with a late 80's Evinrude 90HP

Now for the problem, the tacho no longer works was going to go buy a new one when a thought struck me the pole settings could be different, now im not sure if this tacho has adjustments as it is enclosed in a housing. It is an OMC tacho so before I try pulling it apart can some one confirm that the pole settings between a 3cyl and a 4 cyl will be different and if so what would the pole setting be for a V4 90HP

Google it, use V4 pole setting etc 5 rings a bell but it's been a long time. Worth considering also is a charging problem, stator,regulator/rectifier as pole setting just sets the counter correct for the pulse's. Fire's start when tachos stop....

I'm with FNQ, get a multi meter first and check the battery voltage with the engine running. The Tacho's probably fine, something else like rectifier me thinks.
