    Re: Nuggets Spanish Mac

It was a bit of fun - and to be honest a lot of luck!
I saw the birds and baitfish and worked the gutter based on that - it was about 2klm from the Cape.
I was using another rod / reel combo and the WIN Tv presenter (Paul Taylor) was using the outfit I landed the mackerel on.
He threw a bird's next so I swapped rods and re-tied his outfit.
I threw one cast after un-tanglening it just to get the kinks out and that was the hook-up.
That's the reason I had to keep tightening the drag - I had deliberately set it light for him.
For those interested - it was a Shimano 6500 Baitrunner, 6kg mono, no leader (no wire).
The lure was a 40gm (I think) green Raider metal slug.
I didn't weigh it for the competition but went a few grams less than 15kg on the official scales.

    Sometime you get lucky!
