    Re: gps sites.

I am doing exactly that myself at the moment.

I'm new to all of this so the others may have some more hints and tips but what I have been doing is using Google Earth which will let you go to marks using the "Fly To" function. You just need to make sure you are using the right format for Google Earth it should look like this:

    27 06 48S 153 21 48E

Have a search on this site for Google Earth and you will find some more good info.

Thank-you will give that a shot later. Ive tried http://atlas.mapquest.com/maps/latlong.adp but can only put one mark in at a time, trying to put all my marks on the computer at once.

    Re: gps sites.

If you log onto the BOM's weather radar sites, as you move the cursor around the map the latitude and longitude are shown in the boxes labelled 'Map coordinates'. You can use this to get a general idea of the location of any set of GPS marks. If you want more detail then Google Earth is the way to go.

Hey mate i can never get the same format as u use to work on google earth i have to use this format say:

    34 29.459' N, 164 74.648'E

if i use the format u use it says no location found, oh well ill just have to keep using the one i use.

You can also measure the distance using the ruler on google earth.

    Re: gps sites.

You may need to change the Google Earth set up - what i have done is change the Lat / Long to Degrees, Decimal minutes (do this under tools > Options) and you may have to convert your marks this post has lots of good info on formats and converting between them.

    Check out http://maps.bonzle.com/c/a?a=home&c=...E75285&w=40000
You can check water depth as well.

    Re: gps sites.

Yep like bbayjohn says http://maps.bonzle.com has handy depth estimates for offshore areas all around oz and you can cut and paste coords in any format into the search box and it will try to guess the right format or give you a choice if it is ambigous. The save waypoint function is good for saving off marks off the net and once I have done a sanity check on them, then I print the whole lot off and puch em into the furuno.
