I was just wondering how many people buy new boats and just go with the motors offered by the dealers.
Or has anyone gone their own way, bought the hull and had their choice of motor fitted independently.
I would love to buy the new yalta 615, but only offered with yammy.
My preference would be suzi 4 stroke.

Greg, you can do as you have stated but it simply means more$$ as dealers seem to be able to discount packages rather than individual unit sales

Greg you are playing my tune....the problem is really bad with trailers. You just have to try and get a Suzi dealer to buy the boat you want..but it may be dearer as you have to assume that the boat mfrs give preferential pricing to their dealers... evn tho that is probably illegal...? My next boat I am going independent choices but am resigned to it costing me more.

i have just bought a Stacer package. i havent taken delivery of it yet though. anyway, i got one of those packages but, when i told the guy what i wanted the boat for, and its spacific needs, he upgraded it to a 60 merc as apposed to the standard 40 mariner. got the lot for near the same price as advertised. give or take a few hundred.

Seahorse I went the way of choosing my own brands and saved a packet, but this avenue is not always the best and can be frought with danger.
When purchasing my Razerline I had a choice of a few motors, e-tec, johnzuki, yamaha. 4 stroke, 2 stroke , & DI. I was tempted to go with the e-tec but some mis information had me looking elsewhere and a DI tohatsu made its way to the RS of the razerline. Saved a packet on it over the others also. The dealer tried to talk me out of it. Reduced resale etc etc, but the savings were to good to ignore and I have no doubt over tohatsu reliability.
The same went for the electronics purchased separatly.
The drawback is that if something is not right, unless u can specify where the fault is, each dealer will say its the others work. No one dealer will take responsibility for the work they do. So u get on the herdy gerdy and frustration reigns.
If your good with boats and can sort this stuff out and can save a few bob on the dealers best price, I say do it. If not then a package may be the best way.
It can sometimes be worth asking though if the dealer can source another motor at a good rate as I have a m8 who managed to have the manufacturer of his new Northbank install a Honda over the Mercury usually supplied by that dealer and at less than it would ahve been with the Merc. Go figure!
In a lot of cases up here they get snakey if you only want to buy the boat off them and not there brand of motor.

I guess in a sort of way, regardless of how good any Motor they might offer you is, it is a big investment and your Money, why would you have another brand, when always in the back of your mind your thinking "geee I wish I had a . . . . "
One particular dealer called me a "Fool" when saying I wanted a particular boat but a different engine.
Needless to say he did not sell me a boat.

Been a while since I saw you at Whytes ramp when you just got your new toy...I optioned up on my package, initially the package was with a 60Merc, I optioned it up for as you know a 60E-TEC, never had any issues as the motor dealer runs the warrantee on the motor,,...the boat dealer the warantee on the boat..so I can't see an issue with going your own way...same goes for electronics....in my opinion the preferred package set out by a dealer generally offers the dealer the best deal...but its your boat, your money, your choice

That was the last time i was at whyte is ramp.
I rememb when i bought current boat. I talked to motorama at capalaba, and price was good but would only put a yammy on back and i wanted a merc. That was it. I went elsewhere
