I have just started building my own Camping Trailer that will be used for storing camping equipment.
The trailer chassis is made out of 50mm square tube with a wall thickness of 4mm and the drawbar is from 100mmx50mm wall thickness is 4mm (bit of an overkill but it was at the right price).
The trailer tub will measure 1200x1800 with the drawbar length being 1500mm. The sides of the trailer will be 550mm high and are made out of 1.2mm gal sheeting which will eventually be painted with killrust epoxy enamel. There will be a hinged lid on the top and hood racks for the kayaks and a tray on the front to carry the fridge and deep cycle battery.
With a bit of horse trading, wheeling and dealing, scrounging and e-bay I estimate the trailer will cost around the $550.00 mark registered.
I will post pics of my progress for those interested.
Costs (out of pocket)
3 off 1200x2400x1.2 gal sheets cut and folded = $150.oo (friend)
steel for trailer chassis and drawbar = $60.oo """"
ally for guards/tailgate ext = $60.oo '''''''
taillights =$17.oo E-bay
wheels and tyres x4 = $60.oo scrap metal merchant
axel/springs/and hubs new = $120.oo friend
paint =$27.oo bunnings
jockey wheel free Thanks Raesen I owe ya
everything else I needed for the trailer I got trading bits and pieces or fell off a truck
added the tub and front tray
The trailer is being built in the back yard so bad weather does stop production
Cheers Bob

Bob looks like a worthwhile project indeed. We used to do the camping thing with tents and whathave you and rearranged my box trailer to suit. Built some shelving and benches that fitted inside the trailer during travel and placed at the back of the trailer when camping (like a portable kitchen that had every thing we need.
Any how good luck to you and by the way I have a jockey wheel 8inch pneumatic tyre (no bracket) you can have if you wish. I live pretty close if you are at Kallangur.
More pics as the trailer goes along. The blue carpeted tray at the back of the trailer is for the coleman road trip barby where it will be permanently mounted and the tailgate will swing up on gas struts to form a serving table for the barby.
The 2 slide out drawers underneath the tray will mounted with two plastic units with slide out drawers so they will clear the tailgate when it is open.
Still gotta get the hinged lid to cover the whole top and the racks to carry to carry the kayaks and the lot to be painted.
For those who may be interested, most of the welding has been done using .9 silicon bronze wire.
The reason for this is the bronze doesnt rust and when welding gal it is a lot easier. Silicon bronze is a lot dearer, around $350.00 a spool compared to $28.00 for steel wire and you gotta use pure argon, and I get it for free so why not use it?
cheers Bob
