    Boat Rego Increase

Here is an extract from the Courier mail this morning

"QUEENSLAND'S 200,000 recreational boaties are set to be slugged with higher fees in the next State Budget, with registration to rise by up to $360.
Leaked Treasury documents show registration fees will rise between $15 and $360 a year depending on the size of the boat.

Treasurer Andrew Fraser confirmed the fee hike but said all the extra revenue raised would go towards building new boat ramps and pontoons and updating existing ones. Sixty-three per cent of boat owners would pay an extra $15 a year.

Under the changes, the registration of tinnies up to 4.5m will rise to $50.35 - up $15. But owners of 20m-plus craft will pay $598 - an extra $360.

The additional charges are expected to raise an extra $7 million a year."

and I thought they were always sprouting "user pays". 20m plus vessels won't be using any ramps or pontoons.

But you'll look at them and laugh on the way past. They are giving you some amusement value, therefore you must pay.

If they put the money into the things that they say all is good with me ,i personally think boat and trailer regos are more than fairly priced ...matt

An extra $360ish for a 20M vessel?? a 60 footer?? That's NOTHING to the owners of these vessels, We're talking something that would cost an easy 4k to fill the fuel tanks, and that's conservative.

The $360 is purely unneccesary, why can't the facilites be bought up to a common standard before any more money is injected, I'm SURE there's been enough put in over the years

    Re: Boat rego

Just more tax, probably the increase is quietly designed to gather more fines from greenzones, ahhh to live under a value adding government!

How much was the typical 6m and under rego 10 years ago -everything else not made in china has doubled in price that's a 10% average inflation rate per year to anyone who would 'choose' to continue traditional participation in society, possibly and extra $15 is ok??

    cheers fnq

    Re: Boat rego

It could be that the rise will fund the new boats for the patrols for the Green zones.

Or maybe the money will be used to buy all boat owners a GPS with the Green zones clearly marked on the internal maps. Nah, that would just be wishful thinking.

    Re: Boat rego

what about increased rego on boat trailers? or parking fees at boat ramps? or annual seaworthy certificates? fishing licences? or up the sales tax on bait to to stop young anglers binge fishing, gee those pollies are dump, they could be really be getting into us if they had the right smarts

    Re: Boat rego

Once the Greenzones get started, we should ALL meet in one of them, and fish it. It might highlight how bloody stupid the idea is, given that I'd be surprised if more than one or two boatloads of inspectors'd turn up. Back at the ramp we all pitch in to cover the fines for the few they got around to booking...

They aren't hiring any more inspectors to my knowledge. Why tighten the rules and not police them accordingly?

    Re: Boat rego

I have no real problem with a reasonably minor rise for my 4.4, but I am sussy about where the money goes.

There are a lot of beautiful ramps in the southeast and yes I understand that is probably where the greatest congregation of boaties occurs in Qld. But I really do think that attention needs to be paid to A LOT of the ramps in other smaller centres on the QLD coast. Too often the regional and country areas miss out and have to use ramps (if that's what they can be called) that a lot of southeasters wouldn't dream of launching or retrieving their pride and joy on.

It's the divvy up of the pool that I think is unfair.

    Re: Boat rego

I can't imagine where the next slug is gunna come from.

According to me, we're all getting hit extra for where we live, how we live, everything we eat, where we go, what we use to get there, how we get what we need there, where we stay when we get there, what we drink when we get there, what we do when we get there ...and if we were going boating..........they've got us again !!!

Seeing as they're gunna upgrade the Gateway, I wonder if they'd consider putting in 6 lanes at all the ramps.

Maybe becoming a homeless, tee-totalling anorexic hitchhiker is the way to go.........

    Nah.................too much pollution............
