    Spotties In The Bay

HI guys we have been up to hervey bay for a couple of days and decided to come back early due to the crap weather moving in . We arrived saterday arvo and put the boat in after settling into our rental house,we went for a run out to the arty where we have had some good luck before but all we caught was some small cod and a couple of undersize snaps . On sunday it was 10-15 kt so we thought we would take a run up the inside of fraser and head up to a few marks i have that have produced some mixed reefies before ,after being munched by little fellas on the cajun and sweet &sour chooks i decided to rip a fllet of a grinner and let it float out the back of the boat . We were up near arch cliffs in about 60ft of water when all of a sudden zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz z zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz of goes the 2500 sol with 6 lb and 12lb leader and after a good few runs up came a beautiful spottie mac ,so now a bit of pandamonium broke out as i had to quickly change tackle for the spotties . I had to upgrade the leader twice as they here just biting us of and i had to defrost my emergencie pillie supply that i had onboard . I ended up tying a swivell to the wifes leader and putting on some 40lb mono with a small sinker and a 2 hook gang and this did the trick as soon as she got that pillie out she was on ,the spotties came in on her 2500stradic after a good fight but not giving me much time to fish but i also got a couple . We ended up with 4 nice fish in the esky and caught 6 all up ,we released 2 and got busted up a number of times it was 30 minutes of flatout fishing . The wind got up and the spotties moved on so we headed home hoping to get back out there again this week but the weather was against us . On the monday the misses was a bit sus on the weather so we hung around big woody and down to boags for a while but the wind was getting up a bit so i put us on a bit of rocky reef at the north end of the island and i set a bearly trail then like clock work the small snaps came on the chew we ended up catching about 30 of the little buggers with only a couple over 35cm so we put them back as we have a 40cm limit in our boat but it wasfun all the same ,as you will notice i had to resort to the smelly stuff to put a feed on the table but i figure thats what fishing is about, changing tacktics to suit the conditions . Monday was the starty of some very ordinary se wind so we stayed home and did some tourist things then it turned to crap big time so we came home today as a strong wind warning was current and i might as well be at home in the weather . We always have a great time in hervey bay and this time was no different and the weather ,well thats fishing i guess ....matt

Keechie we gave both the cajun and the sweet &sour a go but never caught anything decent but having said that i have found snapbacks a better option for hervey bay as the critters up there seem a bit more toothy but that is just my opinion ,the tackle shops up there seem to sell more snappys than gulps but maybe few hervey bay locals may prove me wrong ,matt

yeah guys we were quite surprised when we got the first one but their appeared to be plenty of them around its just a shame i didn't have a half cab or something to keep the misses dry otherwise we would have certainly got more ,and yea a shame about the weather...matt
