OK, so I've been busy buys busy for the last three weekends and decided I was sneaking out early on Sunday for a session in the Brisbane River.
First up was my fav bream spot and first three casts I land a legal bream each time on HB, before it goes quiet so switch to SPs and within an hour have picked up about a dozen legal fish. Great fun and a great start.
Then head off to fish some of the wharves but get moved on politely by security guards. They must have a different measure of 30m than me
So I decided to cruise off and fish some bottom structure that I have passed over before and not fished. So I start the drift and fish about a 4gram head with 100mm wriggler. I'm happily bouncing it along, but with the tide and wind going opposite directions the drift is a little hard to sort out. I know I have it sorted when I start getting some touches, but nothing really committed. After about 15-20mins a do the usual scan of the sounder and notice that the 6-10m of water I have been fishing is now 2 metres. So I drop the heavier outfit, grab the bream gear and cast a 2g head with an 80mm wriggler. Let it sink, started to work it back - tap, tap, tap and then the line starts peeling off the reel.
About 5mins later I net a 50cm snapper. That equals one very happy fisho, and it is time to head home. Great little session and I'm amazed at well the 4lb outfit handled the snapper - it's just lucky I was out in the open and not near a pylon or anything....
Go the light gear splashy. I use whiting rods for my squire fishing and dont I have some fun. I have made a lot of converts to it. Nothing like the scream of the drag and the rod bent almost double . I use a 600mm 20 lb mono trace and just a quick lift and its all over. At 50 cm that squire will be sweet eating. Good luck for the next time.
Hi Guys
